Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.’ (John 11:25)
Jesus is the Lord of life. What does it mean to us that Jesus is the resurrection and the life? On the day before His crucifixion, Jesus told His disciples, “Because I live, you will live also” (John 14:19). After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to His believers several times. By proving to them that He had risen from the dead, He gave them confidence in their own resurrection. Because Jesus arose from the dead, He has the power to raise us from the dead. This gives us hope for our own resurrection and eternal life.
Death to many is painful and frightening, but to Christians it is something “far better”, as the apostle Paul puts it. To Christians, the death of the flesh is not the end of life but the beginning of eternal life, which is far better. Though we die physically, we will resurrect when the Lord Jesus comes again. Our bodies will be transformed into glorious spiritual bodies and we shall live with the Lord eternally in heaven. God has not only prepared us with this truth, but He has also bestowed us with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our heavenly inheritance.
Heaven is our hope in Jesus Christ. To be in heaven is to be with Jesus forever. Heaven is a wonderful place, filled with glory and grace. It is the place where those who are saved by Jesus Christ will see each other again after death.
Jesus proclaimed the promise of life to whoever believes in Him. He asked Martha, “Do you believe this?” (John 11:26). By raising Lazarus to life, Jesus demonstrated that He was able to resurrect those who are physically dead. As the son of God, He has power to grant eternal life. By His own resurrection, Jesus proves that He has life in Himself and has power over death. Therefore, we can have complete trust in Jesus’ promise that through Him we shall live forever beyond the grave. Do you believe this?
