“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” (Col 1:16)
The words of Isaiah 9:6 are one of the most powerful prophecies testifying that the coming Christ is to be called “Mighty God.” Jesus created the world and upheld all things by the word of His power. Jesus is God from the beginning. He used the name ‘I AM’ (Jn 8:58) which was used by God when He appeared to Moses (Ex 3:14). God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Ac 10:38). Jesus’ mighty power is evident. The four Gospel books have recorded many miracles and wonders that Jesus performed. Today we can also experience His mighty power.
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” (2Co 4:7)
Apostle Paul used the imagery of jars of clay to illustrate that he was ordinary and unimpressive, but he preached a gospel of great value with the surpassing power of God’s work. We can have the confidence that if God begins a good work in us, then He will complete this work. Thus, we can aspire to serve Him even beyond our own capabilities and talents, for God bestows good gifts on His people. We will experience joy and fulfillment in serving the Lord because the outcome of holy work is under our Mighty God’s control, not ours.
When the storms of life seem to bury us, when we feel like we cannot go on, it is refreshing to know that our Savior, Jesus Christ, is our Mighty God. Apostle Paul put his confidence in Jesus Christ. He said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phi 4:13) Through the Lord’s grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can always stand tall and be victorious.
Jesus Christ is our mighty God upon whom we are to call. He will return as a great champion and victor!
