Awake and Sing, You Who Dwell in Dust

Your dead shall live;
Together with my dead body they shall arise.
Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust;
For your dew is like the dew of herbs,
And the earth shall cast out the dead.
(Isa 26:19)

There are times when our efforts to change for the better seem futile, when the standard “formula” to becoming more spiritual does not seem to work. There are times when our inability to reject the lusts of the flesh seem to bear down on us until we feel like giving up the fight. This verse tells us that though we dwell in dust by being confined to the weaknesses of our physical bodies, we still can “awake and sing” through the power of spiritual resurrection.

All-Sufficient Grace

Even as Christians, we all have our own problems. But what happens when we are in need of help and no one can help us? And what if, while we are weak, others come to us with their problems? Perhaps we would all be too tired or burdened to really care for one another. Or perhaps we would feel discouraged and helpless. The Strength of the Weak

We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed. (2 Cor 4:8-9)

Have you ever felt like your life was shattered by unpredictable troubles? How do you cope with your difficulties and anxieties? In the above verse, the apostle Paul described four devastating experiences and how each crisis was turned around. These troubles show that Paul was weak, yet he was not defeated. This tells us that God gives strength to the weak and also works through weak people like Paul.
