Cling to God

“For You, O God, have tested us;
You have refined us as silver is refined.
You brought us into the net;
You laid affliction on our backs.
You have caused men to ride over our heads;
We went through fire and through water;
But You brought us out to rich fulfillment.” (Psalm 66:10-12)

As the people of God, we will undoubtedly go through periods of refinement. There will be times of affliction, times when burdens press hard against our backs. There will be times when we seem to be dragged into the net, when people will “ride over our heads,” when we will go through the fire and through the water.

Regardless of what lies ahead, we have the perfect Anchor of the soul who will keep us from sinking into despair and hopelessness–Lord Jesus (Heb 6:19)! As long as we cling to Him just as Jacob did when he wrestled with God, we know that our struggle will not be in vain. “I will not let you go unless you bless me!” (Gen 32:26) Now is our chance to cling tightly unto God. Hold fast to God’s promise: though they went through fire and water, He brought them out to rich fulfillment! At the end of the darkness there is light, for God does not allow us to walk through the valley of the shadow of death forever.

It is easy to get intimidated by the unknown; put aside your worries and focus on Jesus. We have made the choice to choose Him above all the things of this world, and our choice will not be in vain. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom 8:28).
