“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Heb 13:8)
I love to read the story of Jesus recorded in the four Gospels of the New Testament Bible. The story of Jesus is very real and dear to me. When Jesus spoke, it is as if He is speaking to me. His teachings are true and unchanging, for He said that “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away” (Matt 24:35). I also imagine that I was physically with Him, witnessing Him taking actions on various events and performing miracles on many occasions. I have firmly believed what happened then can also take place now, for Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Faith is not mere doctrines, but it is real personal life experiences. When we read the Bible, we can apply the teachings and the lessons of the old saints to our lives. The journey of faith is partly to build a lasting personal relationship with God that will transform our lives along the path. This personal relationship with Jesus Christ is dynamic and intimate. It is no different from how the disciples followed Jesus, gradually learned His teachings, built their trust and belief in Him, and eventually shared His mission. Since Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, what He has done for the faithful of the past, He will also do for us today. Since Jesus is now and forever and He does not change, we can have confidence when we build our faith upon Him, and we can establish a personal relationship with Him. As Jesus strived to please His Father, so should we strive to be like Jesus and His character. His character will never change. It is important to spend time with Him and to see for ourselves that He will never change.
We love to tell the story of Jesus because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Jesus was the friend of sinners and He still seeks the lost ones now. Jesus healed the sick, cheered the mourner, calmed the tempest, and His power is still the same. Jesus pardoned the wrong doers, and He still forgive our sins. Jesus walked with the disciples; He is ever near our side through all life’s way. Yesterday, today, forever, Jesus is the same; all may change, but Jesus never. Glory to His name!
