Christ Liveth in Me

"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” (Gal 2:20a)

There was a time when we were far from God, lost and burdened by sin. Yet in His mercy, He drew us near. In Jesus Christ, we have found life, light, and love. Now, by His grace, Christ lives in us. This truth echoes the familiar hymn, “Christ Liveth in Me,” reminding us that the Christian life is not lived alone, but through Him who dwells within.

Only Christ can truly satisfy the soul. In Him, we find a peace that endures and a joy that rises above circumstance. Even in seasons of trial, sickness, or uncertainty, His mercies meet us each morning. His grace is sufficient for every need. Because He lives in us, we are never without hope.

Like sheep under the care of a faithful Shepherd, we are led to rest.

“He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.”
(Ps 23:2, NKJV)

In His presence, weary hearts are renewed and strengthened. The quiet assurance that He abides within us brings comfort that the world cannot give.

The message of the hymn reminds us that our old life has been set aside. To be crucified with Christ means to surrender ourselves and to allow His life to be formed within us.

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Cor 5:17a, NKJV)

This transformation is not achieved by our own strength, but by His life working in us. From the moment we are saved, Christ lives in us, and His life becomes the source of our new way of living.

Through the Holy Spirit, we are given all we need for this life of faith. Our minds are renewed, our desires reshaped, and our steps guided. As the hymn expresses so simply yet powerfully, it is no longer our own strength that sustains us, but Christ who lives in us.

The life we now live carries a greater purpose. It is a calling to reflect Christ in all we do: to make Him known through our words, our actions, and our daily walk. Even in weakness, doubt, and fear, His life within us becomes our strength.

“Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Col 1:27b)

This hope anchors the soul and lifts our eyes beyond the present. It reminds us that this journey is leading to something eternal.

One day, the journey will be complete. Those who have allowed Christ to live and reign within can look forward to the Lord’s words of praise, “Well done, good and faithful servant … enter into My joy.”

Until that day, may this truth remain at the center of our lives, not only as words we sing, but as a reality we live: Christ liveth in us.
