"Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: ‘All nations will be blessed through you.’" (Gal 3:8 NIV)
The hymn “Make Me a Blessing” is more than a prayer to do good deeds; it is a response to God’s redemptive plan for the world. God promised Abraham that all nations would be blessed through him, a promise ultimately fulfilled through Jesus Christ. Through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, God’s saving grace has reached all who believe.
Having received this priceless gift, we are called not only to rejoice in God’s grace but also to share it with others. Our response should be gratitude. Every good gift comes from God’s gracious hand, and a thankful heart naturally overflows in praise and service. As we give thanks, God shapes us into channels through which His blessings can flow to others.
This is the heart of “Make Me a Blessing.” The hymn reminds us that our purpose is not merely personal success but becoming instruments of God’s love, hope, and encouragement. We can bless others through compassion, generosity, and service, allowing His grace to flow through our daily lives.
Being a blessing does not always require extraordinary gifts or grand gestures. Sometimes God works through a kind word, a helping hand, a listening ear, or a sincere prayer. Though these acts may seem small, they can deeply touch a life, reflect God’s goodness, and point others to the saving grace of Christ.
Like Abraham, we are called to be channels of God’s blessing. May we walk in humility and selflessness, proclaiming the good news of Christ and demonstrating His love wherever God places us.
May our daily prayer be, “Lord, make me a blessing.” May our hearts overflow with gratitude and praise, and may God use us to bring His love, hope, and salvation to a world in need of His grace.
