You Are the Light of the World

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Mt 5:14)

As the light of the world, Jesus brings light to mankind. We are children of light. We ought to let Jesus’ light shine through us. As a lamp gives light to everyone around it, we are to manifest God’s truth and goodness to the people around us. Being sanctified by God’s words, living a clean life, bearing the fruit of the Spirit, and having good deeds that show love for people are ways to reflect God’s goodness.

The ultimate purpose of religious belief is to allow people to experience the presence of God and to walk with Him in the light. We should let our light shine because one day, our light may lead someone out of the darkness. Thus, let us not only shine the blessed gospel light but also brighten the corner wherever we are.

Jesus’ Food

“Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work’” (Jn 4:34)

Every time church service ends, we always seem to find ourselves spending a considerable amount of time thinking of where we should grab dinner.  Food is a necessity and also something we look forward to when we’re about to eat something that we have been craving. But when we look at this passage, Jesus actually turned down the physical food that His disciples were offering Him to eat, and placed emphasis on the food that we should long for — doing the will of God by sharing the message of salvation.  Have we ever felt that way about preaching? Is that something that we would “crave” to do?

Witnessing to My Best Friend

I’ve known Megan since 7th grade. She knew I went to True Jesus Church and that services were on Saturday, but that was all I ever shared with her. Evangelizing to her never crossed my mind because religion rarely crept into our conversations. It wasn’t until my dad asked if I wanted to bring her to a Friday hymnal praise night that I actually did. We learned in RE class that arguably the most effective type of evangelizing is personal evangelism; from friend to friend, family to family. I realized I was very lukewarm in my faith and easily forgot Jesus’ Great Commission in the calm rhythm of daily life.

A Christian Co-Worker

Thank God that He recently gave me the opportunity to bring a Christian co-worker to bible study. This co-worker, let’s call her Ann, was on my team, so I worked closely with her for a month. The topic of religion had come up several times in our conversations, so I knew that she was a practicing Christian.

After a month of service, the tradition at our work place is that team members will go out for an “off service dinner.” We similarly planned to do an off service dinner and set a date, which happened to be the date of a mid-week bible study I had forgotten about until the day before. I was on the verge of canceling our dinner, but since I had been reading this blog and thinking about evangelism, God reminded me that I should try to bring her to church. I was a little surprised when Ann actually agreed to come. This was a lesson for me that there are probably opportunities for evangelism all around me; I just often don’t see them because I don’t think about evangelism enough.
